Local Murder Update

On July 4th 2007 there was a murder 1 block from my house.  We were totally clueless to what happened but this is what we were told…

Allegedly these 2 kids who lived in the apartment building on Eye St. (which is 3 houses down from us) were having a fight with this person named David T*.  Well, this happened right in front of our house.  Yes, right in front.  We had no clue because both the TV’s in the house were on and so we couldn’t hear anything.  They weren’t out there for too long because after they beat David up they took him to an alley 1 block from our house on H and 3rd St. where they shot him.  Nobody even heard the shot because of the fireworks going off in every direction.  ALLEGEDLY!!!

19 year old Gregory A* and his 16 year old sister (name withheld) were both arrested and put in jail.  Tomas V* was the actual shooter and he has been sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole.  It was just on the news that Thomas V* shouted out obscenities in court today.

I don’t remember Thomas but I’m sure he hung around the neighborhood with Gregory and his sister.  Gregory had just gotten out of jail at age 18 for something else and he was doing really good too.  He had talked to me about how he wants to lead a better life and not go back to jail and he just seemed like he was ready to turn his life around and just be a better person then months later he’s in jail again.  It was a complete shock to me because he sounded so sincere.

I didn’t know Gregory’s sister very well or at all and from what her mom tells me she’s not in jail anymore, in fact she’s gotten her GED and is in some college programs.  She was only 16 at the time and so when she turned 18 she was released.  This is from what her mom tells me.  I don’t know whether it’s fact or not so ALLEGEDLY!

The rest of the family had to move away from the apartment building that they lived in because of this incident.  I see them at the grocery store every once in a while and I ask the mother how her son and daughter are doing and how she’s coping with everything.  I just cannot imagine losing a child at such an early age to jail.  Then again I can just imagine what David’s parents are going through as well.
