My Books

When I was a kid my mother would read bedtime stories to my sister and myself.  We had lots of books to read but as I got older I wasn’t as interested in books.  My sister was given a whole library of books to read but I didn’t get that same opportunity so I never really got into reading.

When we were teenagers, my sister was always reading novels that my mother and aunt read like V.C. Andrews books and romance novels which also were mainly for women so again, I didn’t think that it was for me.

When I was 14 years old, V came on TV and after seeing the mini-series and the specials that came after that before the TV series came out I saw the novel for V in the store and thought, this is the book for me.  So V was the very first book I ever read when I was a teenager.  But then that was it.

When I was 19 I decided that I wanted to try to read again and I bought 2 books, Back to the Future 2 and 3.  I read them before seeing the 3rd movie in the theater and that was it until I was 35 years old.

In late December 2005 I decided that for the year 2006 I wanted to start reading, it was my New Years resolution to start reading.  I dug a Buffy the Vampire Slayer book out of a box in my closet that I had bought when I went to a book store with my aunt (to fit in since they were buying books) and I read it in just a few hours (it was a very short book).  I was immediately hooked.  It was part 1 of a 4 part book, naturally I would buy that (lol) and I told a friend who loves reading that I was making it a resolution to read more so she bought me the book with all 4 parts in it.  I read it and was hooked on reading.

I immediately went to the Amazon website and bought the Harry Potter book collection 1-5 and I actually read them all.  I bought a few Buffy novels but they weren’t all written as good as that first Buffy novel so I wasn’t as interested in them but I still have them.

Over the years I have bought and read many books and I have all of the ones I have read and most of the ones I haven’t read in a website called aNobii and here is what my shelf looks like with the book I am currently reading at the top on the left along with the last 9 books that I have read.

I have several series of books that I am currently reading, 1 book at a time, such as the Sookie Stackhouse books, Cirque Du Freak, Belgariad (and other David Eddings in that series) and Xanth.  Unfortunately because I’m reading so many different series of books they all have to wait in a queue hehe.

I bought a Nook in September of 2010 because I really want to read more books and since ebooks are cheaper, it makes it easier for me to buy books since I don’t have to rely on someone taking me to the bookstore.  It’s not only easier on my budget but also on my eyes since I can make the text as big as I need.

I am so glad I made that New Years Resolution and I’m sure Barnes and Noble are glad too.
